Redken Extreme promises to strengthen your hair from the inside and out so you can have strong hair that can withstand anything. It’s been reformulated with Redken’s exclusive Interlock Protein Network – it helps deliver protein to the core of your hair and Fortifying Complex which rebuilds your hair’s outer layer. Cermide has also been included to help repair extensive damage.
Redken Extreme Shampoo – It’s a creamy white shampoo with a gentle lather. It doesn’t leave your hair dry and brittle like some shampoos. If you have oily roots, I would suggest you not use this shampoo. Stick to a clear shampoo to reduce oiliness. This is perfect for those with extremely dry hair or ultra blonde dyed hair.
Redken Extreme Conditioner – This is a nice cream conditioner. It helps restore strength and helps detangle hair. Hair feels softer and more manageable after using it.
Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus – This deep conditioning mask is loaded with cermide to help repair severely damaged hair. It’s a thick light blue cream that kind of smells like children’s fruity toothpaste (Weird, I know!) All smells aside, my hair felt wonderful after using it.My hair looked healthier and shinier. My ends even look better too. I know that some people are disappointed that Extreme Deep Fuel was replaced by this. I never got a chance to use Extreme Deep Fuel, so I can’t say if this is better or worse – but what I can say is that I like it.

I was in desperate need of a haircut, so I made an appointment with Hilights Salon in Lyndhurst, NJ to go see my hairstylist Tricia. I’ve been going there for years now. They offer fabulous cuts, color and treatments and the all the girls are really friendly.
My ends looked terrible and were screaming for a cut. My ends were seriously past the point of no return! So I figured this was the perfect reason to update my look for the fall season. After my cut my hair looked so much healthier and lighter and to help maintain it, Tricia suggested I try Pureology. I decided to try the Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner, Hydrate Shine Max, Precious Oil Softening Hair Masque, and Essential Repair Slit End Correcting Treatment.
It’s a gentle sulfate-free shampoo that helps hydrate and preserve your hair color. This shampoo is infused with tons of natural plant extracts – like rose, sandalwood, green tea, and ylang ylang, just to name a few. It has a very light scent and a good creamy lather. My hair felt soft and smooth after I rinsed it out.
A concentrated daily hydrating conditioner that’s also designed to keep hair color from fading. It has added jojoba oil and Shea butter for extra hydration power. It has peppermint, sage, and rosemary in it, which gives your scalp an invigorating tingling sensation. My hair also felt very soft after using this.
This mask does wonders for dry color treated hair. It’s formulated with sunflower seed oil and coconut oil. It helps strengthen, rebuild and restore hair from the cuticle. The best part is that it smells amazing – like an expensive perfume! After rinsing out the conditioner from my hair, I applied this mask + one pump of the Versatile Caring oil for an extra kick of smoothness. I left it on for the full five minutes, maybe even a tad bit longer. My hair felt so soft and smelled sooo good! This is my new go-to combo hair treat, it’s almost like a spa experience.
This treatment helps seal and repair split-ends. It penetrates each strand to help fortify and defend against heat damage. It’s a lightweight leave-in cream with not much of a scent.
It’s a lightweight silicone serum that helps smooth frizz and gives your hair a mega boost of shine. I applied two pumps of this serum to my damp hair. It gave me a nice shine and it did not weigh my hair down. A few days later, I also used some on dry hair and it replenished the shine and my hair was still bouncy.
All of the Pureology products listed above are 100% vegan, sulfate-free and are formulated with their exclusive anti-fade complex. I’m a big fan of Pureology because it offers top salon quality products and is environmentally friendly.

BaByLiss Pro offers a great line of curling irons. Their Nano Titanium 1 1/2″ Spring Curling Iron is a great tool to have in your arsenal. It heats up quickly to a very hot 450 degrees. It’s smooth titanium and ceramic barrel gives your hair large luscious curls or soft beachy waves. Nano Titanium is used because it’s a great heat conductor, that means the curling iron gets hot faster, stays hot longer and evenly throughout the barrel. This reduces hotspots which can really do damage to your hair. Titanium also emits negative ions which helps to tame frizz by counteracting the positive ions that are released by damaged hair.
This curling iron is easy to use and has a basic design. It comes with 5 heat levels (250 – 450 degrees) and a turbo heat button which gives you a quick surge of hotter heat. I’d recommend starting with a lower heat setting so you don’t get a crease from the clamp or simply wrapping your hair around it instead of using the clamp.
Retail : $69.99

GLOSS Moderne High-Gloss Masque is a hair mask that replenishes moisture and gives you ample shine. It’s a thick white cream that’s sulfate-free, sodium chloride-free, and paraben-free. It smells like coconut candy, the signature Coco de Soleil fragrance is mix of coconut, almond, and rum. Just massage into shampooed hair and leave it in for at least 5 minutes. Can be used daily or weekly.
I wasn’t too impressed with this hair mask. The product felt good in my hair and smelled wonderful, but I didn’t really notice a difference in my hair. I love products that contain coconut and almond, they are both great natural moisturizers. I’m sure the rum is added for an extra boost of shine; my mom has been making a homemade mask recipe that contains rum for years now and she swears by it. That recipe will soon be added to the Nature’s Best section!
What do you think? I had to do a tight crop because I need a serious haircut!
Bottom line, it’s a good product. It feels and smells luxurious. My hair felt softer after using it, but not much shinier. I guess it takes a lot to wow me nowadays!
As a brunette, I know that whenever I highlight my hair I have a chance of ending up with orange streaks! If you’ve had bouts in the past with sun-in and ended up with ugly brassy streaks instead of the golden locks you dreamed of – then these tips are for you.
If you’re thinking about getting highlights, try to stay away from honey and caramel shades. These shades are warm and have a higher chance of turning orange on you, instead choose neutral or cool colors. Look for words like ash or natural, these shades work better. Since most brown hair has the tendency to turn brassy, these types of colors will look more like the golden tones you are looking for.
From R to L: Extra Light Natural Blonde, Light Natural Blonde, Light Ash Blonde, Medium Ash Blonde, and Medium Natural Blonde
So now that you have your gorgeous highlights that were strategically placed on your head after waiting 6+ hours at the salon, how do you preserve them?
Only wash your hair with sulfate-free shampoos or shampoos for color treated hair. These shampoos are not as harsh as regular shampoos, which can strip your color. Also try not to wash your hair too much, over washing your hair dries it out.
Protect your highlights from the sun with a SPF hairspray. Sun exposure is the main reason your highlights turn brassy. Applying a SPF will protect your hair and preserve its color. Redken and L’Oreal both offer good UV protectant sprays. I have used both with great results. My travel sized one lives in my beach bag! Just remember to reapply for best results. Argan oil also helps protect against UV and heat damage. Always use a heat protectant spray when using heat styling tools.
Get a color rinse to help boost and revive your highlights. You can get a color rinse at your salon within a month or so to revive your color, or you can make this DIY version: Simply brew a few cups of chamomile tea, enough to saturate your hair. Apply it to your hair, put on a plastic cap and leave in for 15 minutes. The chamomile will refresh your hair color.
So all these tips are great but….. uh-oh your highlights are already brassy! Don’t worry you can still save them!
Purple Shampoo can help. These shampoos help tone down the brassiness and refreshes the color of your highlights. It’s also great if you dye your hair blonde. Clairol makes a good one that saved my highlights last summer.
Highlights are a great way to update your do, but they can be high maintenance for sure! Hope these tips helped.

Clear is a new brand of hair care products that you can buy at mass retailers like Target and Walmart. Their hair care philosophy is “beautiful hair starts at the scalp.” Clear shampoos and conditioners gently cleans and nourishes scalp and hair. It’s formulated with Nutrium 10, a blend of nutrients and vitamins.
I decided to try Clear’s 7 day Starter System which includes 2 Total Care nourishing shampoos and 1 Total Care nourishing conditioner. The Total Care line is suitable for all hair types.
I have mixed feelings about this product. First and for most, I wish it didn’t contain sulfates. Sulfates are added to shampoos to boost the detergents and create more of a foamy lather. They are not necessary and can be really harsh on your hair. I have used sulfate free shampoos for over 4 years now and apparently my hair has gotten used it. After shampooing my hair felt pretty normal. I remember once I tried out an apple scented Bedhead shampoo that left my hair feeling like hay! Luckily the Clear shampoo didn’t do that. The shampoo has a great scent and has a creamy white texture, not runny at all. I made sure to really work it into my scalp, in hopes that it might remove product residue that might get left behind.
The conditioner was also nice. It’s really thick and moisturizes well. It’s an average conditioner that gets the job done.
After my hair was fully air-dried, I noticed that I had more volume than usual. My hair also felt a bit drier than usual, but I must say that in addition to my regular conditioner, I also use a deep conditioner by Renpure. I leave it in for about 3 minutes before rinsing. I didn’t use it this time around because I didn’t want it to affect my review.
Two days and one workout later, I have noticed that my roots are not as oily as they usually are. This is a plus because my roots get oily really quickly.
