Today is going to be one of the hottest days the tri-state area has seen so far this year. On super hot days, I like to keep my makeup to the bare minimum. But sometimes the day calls for a full face of makeup, so here are my tips for a melt proof look that will keep you looking beautiful during a heat wave!
Prime. Before you apply your foundation, you should first apply a primer. A primer works like spackle, it fills in any skin “imperfections” you may have. This leaves your skin smooth, even, and ready for your foundation. Look for a primer with shine control and that’s oil-free. I like Avon Magix Face Perfector and Smashbox Photo Finish Primer.
Foundation. Choose an oil-free mattifying foundation. These foundations help keep shine at bay and don’t clog pores. Try Mac Matchmaster Foundation or bareMinerals Matte Foundation. They both contain SPF, which is absolutely necessary in this type of weather.
Set. After applying your foundation, set it with a powder. The powder will set your look and keep your foundation in place. You could also blend in some bronzer to contour your face. The bronzer will give your face a healthy glow, which can help tone down the matte look. I like to set my makeup with bareMinerals Mineral Veil, I also like Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Loose Powder.
Extra Touches. Use a water proof mascara and eyeliner. Stay away from cream eye shadows! Bring your powder and/or blotting papers with you for touch ups. Bobbi Brown makes a good long wear eyeliner.
e.l.f. Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder gives you an instant face lift. There’s nothing better than one product with two benefits. The blush is more like a highlighter for your cheeks. It’s a very light peach blush with subtle gold shimmer. The bronzing powder is a highly pigmented dark bronzer with subtle gold shimmer and a silky texture. I would have liked it better if the blush was just as pigmented, but it still gets the job done.
Apply the bronzing powder to the hollows of your cheeks and blend it up towards you hairline. Also sweep some of the bronzer across your hairline and your jaw line to create a healthy glow. Next apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks to highlight the area. This creates an illusion that makes your cheeks appear lifted and gives you chiseled cheekbones. I like to apply a darker blush underneath this blush for an added pop of color. I use the blush from the Too Faced Glamour to go III palette, it’s a nice matte peachy pink blush.
If you like Nars Blush-Bronzer Duo, you will like this. It’s a similar product for a crazy fraction of the price.
