beach beauty

This past weekend, I enjoyed a mini summer getaway at the Jersey Shore.  Beach, boardwalk, and beauty were all on the menu and I just couldn’t wait to dive-in! Here’s how I brought my weekend beauty routine to the beach.

Soak up some moisture

After you take your dip in the ocean; saturate your strands with a deep conditioner. Just make sure you rinse out the salt water first. Apply a good amount of product and clip your hair up. Now sit back and relax under your umbrella with a copy of your favorite magazine! Rinse hair out after 20 minutes or when you get home. I like to use Alterna Caviar Replenishing Moisture Masque ($42, alternahaircare.com)

Buff away the day

Make the sand work for you. Next time you hit the beach, exfoliate your legs and heels with wet sand. Just mix salt water with sand and boom – you have an all natural body scrub! Make sure you’re not too rough when using it and as a precaution; don’t exfoliate freshly shaved skin.

P.S. Always make sure to reapply SPF though out the day.

Her Campus Intercollegiette Conference The Beauty Edge

This past Sunday, I had the amazing opportunity of speaking at the Her Campus National Intercollegiette Conference in New York City. I was invited to speak in the How to Make Your Blog a Powerhouse panel. It was so nice to share my blogging secrets with other aspiring bloggers and to get to meet some of my readers.

The event as a whole was very organized and well orchestrated. Check-in was a breeze and breakfast was delish! As soon as I got there I received my awesome fully loaded swag bag with tons of goodies from all the sponsors. Then I was off to the main ballroom to hear the morning’s keynote speaker, executive editor of Parents magazine, Chandra Turner.

Chandra was very refreshing and talked about her organization Ed2010.com and mainly how to make it in the magazine industry. If you’re aspiring to work within this industry then Ed2010.com is a must for you! They post all sorts of media jobs/internships, they hold fun happy hours, and even offer a trust fund scholarship to help students cover the cost of summer internships in the city.

After her great opening speech, I was whisked away to my conference room to get ready to share my blogging journey! I loved engaging with the audience. Everyone had great questions and I felt like the entire room got to have a conversation with each other. This experience was so special, I was able to really reflect on The Beauty Edge  while preparing for the conference. Life can get so busy sometimes, that we often forget all the little milestones that brought us to where we are. Speaking at the conference was definitely a large milestone for me. I hope my tips and insights inspired others to follow their passions in life. All in all it was a great day!

Now I want to talk about my favorite finds in my goodie bag! I love the Viva Dress Up lip balm, can’t wait to try the Intel Ink nail polish, already had my morning protein smoothie in my Her Campus cup, and I’m delightfully intrigued by the mini Harvey Prince Ageless EDP! What a mouthful – I know! I might consider posting about the polish and perfume, let’s see what happens! I’m also digging the LeSportsac scarf and the Unreal goodies. I enjoyed some on the train ride home, yum!

I’d like to thank Her Campus for letting me be a part of #HerConference! Truly an amazing event! Already looking forward to next year.

Essie-Naughty-Nautical summer collection

This year’s summer collection from essie is a mix of creamy and shimmery shades. It’s nautical inspiration transcends through the color choices and adorable polish names. I’m loving almost all of these shades – the green shade; however, it a miss for me! Sorry essie!

essie full steam ahead

Full Steam Ahead is a pearlescent punch lilac and it’s my absolute favorite shade from this collection. I typically go for pinks over purples, but this shade takes the crown. It is so lush, but yet so muted. You can totally get away with is shade at the office, but it’s still fun and not boring.

essie sunday funday

Sunday Funday – the name says it all! It’s a tangerine coral crush with a slight shimmer. Perfect for summer fun filled weekends.

essie the more the merrier

The More the Merrier – my least favorite color in the collection. It’s a juicy lime green creamy shade. It would look pretty as an accent color when paired with Sunday Funday or Naughty Nautical; but solo, I think it looks to harsh. I’m not a huge fan of the name either. It makes me think of Christmas and winter, the total opposite of summer.

essie the girls are out

The Girls Are Out is a fun fuchsia peony sparkle polish. It’s a strong magenta color that kind of reminds me of Super Bossa Nova, just a bit less glossy.

essie rock the boat

Rock the Boat is a shimmering french blue. I neither love it nor hate it. It look like last year’s Bikini so Teeny with a powdery finish.

Summer 2013 Waterproof Makeup

Can your makeup beat the heat? Summer-ize your makeup bag with these waterproof, smudge-proof makeup picks for summer.

tarte waterproof bronzer

Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Mineral Powder Bronzer $29

No shimmer here – this ultra matte bronzer gives you the glow you’re looking for without the excess shine.

bobbi brown gel eyeliner

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner $23

The eyeliner I can’t live without – Bobbi’s gel eyeliners last all day and night. It has the staying power of a waterproof mascara, so it’s definitely a must-have for summer. I recommend a lighter shade for summer, try it in espresso ink.

nyc smooch proof

NYC Smooch Proof 16Hr Lip Stain $4.99

The affordable lip stain that stays put on your pout throughout the day. Try it in smooch proof – a gorgeous berry pink, that will leave your lips looking ripe for summer.

Clinique lash power mascara

Clinique Lash Power Mascara $16

Nothing beats a good waterproof mascara. It’s a season chock full of celebrations – like weddings and graduations. Your eyes are bound to well up during these events; and if your mascara isn’t waterproof, you’ll end up with black tears in no time! This mascara from Clinique makes your lashes look longer and will keep you smudge free for up to 24 hours.

Illamasqua Paranormal Palette

Illamasqua Paranormal Palette $46.50

Bright, bold, beautiful colors for the summer, this shadow palette looks like a powder, but feels like a cream. It has a unique formula that’s waterproof with a silky finish.

Makeup Forever Eye Makeup Remover

Makeup For Ever Sens’Eyes $24

So if all these products are waterproof – how do you take it off!?! Well, I recommend Makeup For Ever’s Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser. It’s a refreshing lightweight makeup remover that helps you remove your makeup effortlessly, minimizing your need to tug and pull at your eye area.
